About Dr. Mai
As he began his journey to becoming a premier dentist at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Dr. Mai committed himself to the highest level of excellence possible. For 19 years, Dr. Mai’s base of experience has grown with the industry’s state-of-the-art treatment strategies and allows him to offer you customized and comfortable care in prevention, restoration and cosmetic dentistry, including, as needed, the use of various forms of conscious sedation. As a result, Dr. Mai’s personal care has earned him some of the very best dental reviews in the area.
In his personal time, Dr. Mai loves spending time with his son, exploring the wonders of the USA and the world at large, and dedicating time to his own personal fitness.
About Dr. Jason Spears, DMD
A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, MD, Dr. Spears has built a foundation of extensive knowledge and experience in Dentistry. He also completed a postdoctoral residency for an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) with Lutheran Medical Center based in Brooklyn, NY. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, UT.
Dr. Spears appreciates the opportunity he’s had to give back to the world by participating in community health events around Florida and on mission trips to several countries.
Dr. Spears was born in California and raised in Maryland from the age of four. Following his education, he moved to Florida and has been practicing in the Sunshine State ever since. He is one of five children and when he is not practicing dentistry, he is traveling the world, hiking, playing sports, scuba diving, or spending time with his family and dog.

Starting as an Expanded Functions Dental Assistant, Carey has seamlessly transitioned from clinical roles to leadership. Today, as our Regional Manager, she ensures the smooth operation of our practice. Off-duty, Carey enjoys quality time with her husband, Jordan, and their beloved pets. They support Jordan’s home inspection business and indulge in boating, concerts, and cozy movie nights. Her dedication to your dental well-being and bright smiles shines through every aspect of her work. With Carey by your side, expect a comfortable and exceptional dental experience.
Kristina Haywood
Remote Operations Coordinator
Meet Kristina, a Mai Dentistry team member since 2013, remotely orchestrating behind-the-scenes magic from Oregon. With a dental journey starting in 2002, Kristina, a proud mom of two, brings her love for water, boating, camping, and adventure to the forefront. Despite the distance, she ensures a quarterly in-person connection, embodying unity in our dental community. Karaoke enthusiast and dedicated professional, Kristina adds a unique melody to the Mai Dentistry experience.

With a career in dentistry spanning since 2006, Kristy brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our team. She is a proud mother of three and a grandmother to one. In her personal time, Kristy loves to travel and enjoys taking relaxing naps. Her extensive background and warm, family-oriented nature make her a valued member of our practice.
Christine Glenn
Assistant Manager
Originally from New Jersey, Christine moved to the Tampa Bay area in 1975. Her career began in banking, but she shifted her focus to dentistry and has been with Mai Dentistry since 2013’s opening of the Hudson office. She finds working with her patients, Dr. Mai and the team at Mai Dentistry to be deeply enjoyable. Her personal interests include spending time with family and friends, learning as much as she can about health and dental care, and pursuing adventures traveling and kayaking.

Introducing Jennifer Knudsen, our Lead Dental Assistant extraordinaire, serving diligently across all three of our locations. With a deep-rooted love for dentistry, Jennifer’s favorite part of the job is crafting temporaries, showcasing her impeccable skill and dedication. She’s been perfecting her craft since 2004, and since joining us in 2016, her passion has been an invaluable asset to our team.
Beyond the dental world, Jennifer finds solace in beach vacations, sharing quality moments with her family. Her significant other, Christopher, and two wonderful kids, Kaila and Jacob, are her heart’s delight. Meet Becky, a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience in the dental field. Originally from Wisconsin, she relocated to Florida while maintaining strong ties with her family back in the Midwest.
Beyond her expertise in dentistry, Becky’s heart resonates with her love for dogs, football, and the warmth of family life. Her wealth of experience in insurance and genuine passion for both her work and personal interests make Becky an invaluable member of our team.
Marcela Cali
Registered Dental Hygienist
Marcela graduated from UMDNJ, School of Health Related Professions, and earned her license in Dental Hygiene in 1999. She later completed the Comprehensive Dental Hygiene Program at Las Vegas Institute. Bilingual (Spanish), she prides herself on her compassion and ability to put patients at ease to ensure a positive experience. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three children. Running and dancing round out her leisure activities.
Jason Ferreira
Registered Dental Hygienist
Jason was born in North Dakota and moved to Florida at a young age. He graduated with his degree as a Registered Dental Hygienist from Pasco Hernando State College, then achieved a license in anesthesia, and has five years’ experience as a hygienist. An avid landscaper, car enthusiast, and book collector, Jason also loves doing mixed martial arts and teaching it as well.
Bacil Istanbuly
Registered Dental Hygienist
Having earned an extensive university education in health sciences internationally, and through military training abroad and in the U.S., Bacil found his calling from a young age and followed his dream of healing patients through dental care. Even while pursuing continuing education, he began his dental health career first as a dental assistant and then as a registered dental hygienist, always focusing on providing the best care possible. He deeply enjoys seeing his patients’ smiles and loves to spend time helping them learn better habits toward dental health.
Bacil has an M.S. in Health Sciences, is a licensed nurse practitioner and registered dental hygienist, and has also served proudly as an officer in the U.S. Navy. With over twenty years’ experience in the industry, he takes pride in his ability to continually grow his dental health skills while practicing, but still finds time each year to visit his family in Jordan – and even volunteer in various local clinics on each trip.
